Hello solar robotics enthusiasts!

Welcome to this week's Solar Robotics Newsletter, produced by Straylight Ventures, where we cover the latest in robotics, automation, and AI transforming utility-scale solar. This week: Areg.AI launches an autonomous firefighting robot and puts a new mower to work in Uzbekistan, Xpanner Automation passes 20 GW of solar built with its automation, Leapting secures another Middle East contract win, and Solar-LIT debuts a faster module installation robot.

  • Areg.AI launched FIREBOT, an autonomous fire detection and suppression robot for hazardous sites.
  • Xpanner Automation passed 20+ GW of solar capacity built across 60+ job sites.
  • Leapting secured another 1.5 GW solar robotics contract in the Middle East.
  • Solar-LIT debuted a semi-automated PV module installation robot built for speed at scale.
  • Areg.AI put its MOWBOT to work on autonomous mowing missions in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
  • SolarCleano and SNT showed an autonomous mower handling dense brush at a solar site.

πŸ”₯ Fire Safety & Response

Areg.AI Launches FIREBOT, an Autonomous Firefighting Robot

Areg.AI introduced FIREBOT, an autonomous fire-fighting ground robot that combines thermal and visual imaging with AI-based fire and smoke detection for hazardous environments. The robot uses FPGA and Jetson-based processing to identify hotspots and aim its fire monitor turret, which pans 180 degrees and tilts plus or minus 90 degrees in automatic or manual mode.

FIREBOT handles Class A and Class B fires with water and AFFF foam across six fire modes, navigates using GNSS, LiDAR and vision fusion, and dispatches automatically on a fire alarm or ERP trigger. It runs four to six hours per charge and reports status through Areg.AI's Digital Twin and fleet management platform, operating in zones unsafe for personnel.

πŸ“Š Scale & Metrics

Xpanner Automation Passes 20 GW of Solar Built With Its Robots

Xpanner Automation said its technology has now supported more than 60 job sites and 20+ GW of solar capacity, with 160+ machines currently under management. Deployments span Texas, the Midwest, California, Florida and the Pacific Northwest.

The company credited its crews and partners for the growth and said each job site continues to teach it something new about building faster and more safely.

🌟 Major Win

Leapting Secures Another 1.5 GW Solar Robotics Contract in the Middle East

Twelve days after the global debut of its Auto-Navigation Forklift Robot (AFR), Leapting won another Middle East solar robotics contract with an initial capacity of 1.5 GW. The company's Module Mounting Robots (MMR) and the newly launched AFR will support the project, automating multiple construction processes.

The win follows a string of product launches and contract wins that have expanded Leapting's footprint in the region.

πŸ—οΈ Construction & Deployment

Solar-LIT's Installation Robot Targets 900 Modules a Day

Solar-LIT introduced a semi-automated PV module installation robot designed to handle the repetitive lifting, positioning and placement work on utility-scale solar builds. The company says a six-person crew can place a module every six seconds, for up to 900 modules a day.

The system uses 3D vision positioning and vacuum gripping to hold placement steady, aiming to cut manual handling while keeping installation consistent across a project.

πŸ€– Autonomous Operations

Areg.AI's MOWBOT Joins Its Fleet on Site in Uzbekistan

Areg.AI's MOWBOT began autonomous mowing missions at a solar plant in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, joining two other robots, Sobot and CBOT, already running on the same Areg.AI platform.

The company said the deployment is another step toward fully autonomous power plant operations, with each robot handling a different task under one integrated system.
