Hello solar robotics enthusiasts!

Welcome to this week's Solar Robotics Newsletter, produced by Straylight Ventures, where we cover the latest in robotics, automation, and AI transforming utility-scale solar. This week: a new technology roadmap from Cosmic Robotics, a deployment milestone from Gritt, and a multi-robot autonomy test from Areg.AI.

Here are the stories that caught our attention this week:

  • Cosmic Robotics released a technology roadmap targeting autonomous city construction on Mars in the mid-2030s.
  • Gritt passed 30,000 solar panels placed and 18+ megawatts installed.
  • Areg.AI's SOBOT demonstrated autonomous fleet coordination during a field test.
  • LEAPTING debuted its AFR remote-controlled forklift at a solar site in the UAE.
  • Luminous received its fourth award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • FTC Solar's Cody Houser said builders who don't adopt robotics will fall behind.
  • A solar customer reported 900 modules installed per day with a four-person crew using Ozzies' OMH.
  • SUPERNOVA added Fraunhofer Italia - IEC as a new robotic-inspection partner.

Cosmic Robotics: from solar sites to Mars

Cosmic Robotics released a technology roadmap this week targeting autonomous city construction on Mars in the mid-2030s. The team includes engineers with backgrounds from SpaceX, Tesla, Google, Amazon, Zoox, Nuro, and Autodesk. The company points to its internal development progress, successful deployments on large-scale construction sites, and recent advances in AI research as the basis for the timeline. Solar construction sites remain the near-term proving ground for the same autonomy stack.

πŸ€– AI & Automation

Areg.AI's SOBOT handles a field disruption

Areg.AI ran a field test of its SOBOT this week. SOBOT detected another robot (FIREBOT) entering its path, avoided it, and continued operating. When it lost connectivity, a third robot (AIRBOT) launched automatically as a communication relay, keeping the fleet coordinated without human intervention.
